My wife and I purchased a home from Kono Inc. in 2006 and have been immensely pleased with our purchase.

Entering the home-buying process, owning a home that was well-built, stylish, and functional was paramount for us.  We could immediately tell that our house delivered on all fronts.

Thoughtfulness and attention to detail are apparent throughout the house.  Radiant heat, solar panels, hidden storage, and electronics wiring are just a few of the details that we have enjoyed.

Further, we consistently receive compliments on how attractive the house is, we never fear during a storm, we can comfortably host overnight guests, and the home is ideal to raise our two young children.

Lastly, we are fortunate to count Dave as a friend and are continually grateful to him for making himself available for occasional home improvement odds and ends.

In summary, my wife and I will continue to enjoy our home for many years to come and we strongly recommend Dave and Kono Inc. to build your home.

We have been thinking about the type of house we would want for several years.  Initially, we wanted to buy a ‘green’ house, but thought this would be impossible to find in the city at a price point we could afford.  As we have been going through our search for the perfect home for our family, we had concluded that green was not possible.

Our primary focus became location (our oldest child will be starting kindergarten at Coonley Elementary in the fall) and layout.  This was until we saw North Oakley and found that our dream of a green house could be found and be within our budget!

We were very impressed by the green elements such as the geothermal heating and cooling, the Hardie Plank exterior, and the extra insulation.  These details are not commonly found in today’s newly constructed homes in Chicago.

We were also impressed by the attention to not only the cosmetic detail but in the structural detail as well, including the small things like dedicated air intake valve on the fireplace to cut the draft.  The excellent craftmanship was evident, and it was obvious from both Chuck and David that they took great pride in the design and building of this house.

We also share their passion for eco-friendly home design and would hope to forge a continued relationship with Kono Inc. to make additional home improvements.  For example, we would consider adding solar panels, which we know Kono Inc. has built in its other home.  We have plenty of time to consider this and other improvements because we intend to stay in our house for the next 20-30 years.  We want a home for the long haul, a home that our family will enjoy until long after our boys have left for college.

We have a cousin who is an architect and developer in Washington, D.C. After we saw North Oakley for the first time, we spoke at length with him about the geothermal system and what it means.  He is a true believer in it, having used it himself in his developments and his own house.  He was as surprised as we were that we were able to find a house in Chicago that incorporated this system.

After doing more research into what geothermal would mean to us and to the environment, we have become true believers as well.  We are constantly trying to teach our children how to leave less of a footprint on the environment, and what better way than to grow up living in this house.

These are some of the reasons that we would love to make this house our home for many years to come.  We can envision our family living a very long and happy life in this house!

After interviewing six contractors and doing my diligence, I chose Kono Inc. for our new single-family home in Lakeview.  Dave came highly recommended by real estate industry professionals and previous clients and did not disappoint!  I found him to be professional, personally accessible, and flexible during all phases of construction.  (Dave answers his phone when you want to talk to him.)

The work is of the highest quality and was completed on time and within our pre-negotiated budget.  Building a home and selecting the finishes is a very complex process.  Kono Inc. took the stress out of the decisions.  We worked with a lot of professionals, from fixtures to appliances, that Dave has pre-screened and make the choices fun and easy.

During the final phases of construction, we had a baby.  Dave did a fantastic job sweating the details and still giving us the final word on the little things that make a house a home.  After moving in, Dave continues to be accessible and available for anything that arises.

“Dave has good work ethic, strong sense of integrity, and does things the right way.”

We started work with Dave in 2010 after interviewing several contractors for a renovation/ addition to our 1908 home.  We know of some of Dave’s previous new build projects and were impressed with what we saw and heard of Dave’s work.

Dave is very easy to work with and has a great personality.  He is easy going, straightforward, and calm- all important traits in a project like ours.

We are extremely happy with the outcome as well.  Dave not only constructed a beautiful home for us, he did it in an amazingly short period of time and was on target for what he estimated.  Workers were at the house almost every single week, Monday through Saturday.  The process went very smoothly, which we believe is a direct result of Dave’s experience, sound opinions, and good suggestions.

Most importantly, Dave has a good work ethic, strong sense of integrity, and does things the right way.  We always felt he was an advocate for us in this process.  He really was great to work with and we would gladly take on another project with hm as our GC!
